Electronic Voice Phenomena
Voices of the Dead?
James E. Alcock, PhD
When we talk about communication with the dead, we are usually referring to "mediums" who talk to the dead on our behalf, or who allow the dead to speak to us through them.
What if, instead the dead could speak to us directly, without the middle person?
If You Survive Death…?
Imagine for a moment that you are the dead person, that your body has died, but your mind / personality / soul lives on. You are surprised by this, and you want to tell people, especially your skeptical friends, all about it – you want to communicate with us. What would you do?

WIKIPEDIA- definition of EVP
____________________________________________________________________________
"This is an EVP I caught at Waverly Hills in April, 2007," writes Kathy Kessler. "We were on the fifth floor children's area in a room near the infamous room 502. My husband walked into a room that, from the doorway, looked like it went off to one side. You can hear a small child-like humming as I am speaking to him. Then after I ask, 'Where does that go?' (I thought there was another door in the room) and he answers, 'Nowhere,' you can hear the child repeat, 'Nowhere....' Nothing at all was done to this clip."
You can hear this new EVP and others in the EVP Gallery.

Facts of EVP Electronic Voice Phenomena
Thomas Edison was the first to believe that EVP’s were possible and even worked on a machine to catch them. However the first recorded EVP belongs to a Swedish bird watcher Fredrich Jurgenson. He was recording bird songs. He heard nothing during his recording, but on playback he heard many voices, including some telling him how to record other voices. He also heard his own mother. EVP’s are now widely accepted by professional and amateur ghost hunters’ worldwide.
Experts agree that the quality of the equipment does not matter whether you use a tape recorder, digital recorder or reel to reel. However experts will recommend using an external microphone to reduce noise generated by the tape recorder or handling of the device. Also you might want a windscreen to reduce wind noise. Experts also recommend you use new tapes or replace them often to reduce the chances of noise from any previous recordings.

The audio voice recorder is one of the main types of recorders used in a paranormal investigation. Many investigators prefer a tape recorder rather than a digital recorder. This is because spirits are believed to use electric and magnetic fields to manipulate their environment. This type of recorder uses the same types of magnetic and electric fields to produce a recording.

The digital voice recorder is just as important as the audio tape recorder.
It also uses some of the same technology as the tape version. It has
many qualities such as a much longer recording time, clearer sound
quality and most come with good software to help analyze your
evidence.
EVP or Electronic Voice Phenomena, is one of the most interesting areas of current ghost research. Investigators capture voices of unknown origin on recorders. But what are they? Where do they come from?
Electronic Voice Phenomena is the recording of errant noises or voice messages to either analog or digital recorders with what appears to be no earthly explanation. Most believers of EVP maintain these are messages from beyond the grave.
They point to things such as "missing frequencies" or "frequency shifts" in a spectrum analysis of the recording as proof that no human alive could have spoken these words, or they offer the proof that the recording seems to answer a question asked of the "ghost" being sought.
